The Three Lives of Cate Kay
The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan was . . . fine. I was distracted by the bad naming of things — books within the book, characters. The characters weren’t real people, just caricatures. But I admired the construction of the book. There were Easter eggs littered throughout the book and these were fun to find. The construction seems to have been written for maximum suspense even though there really isn’t that much. We kept being told there’s suspense, we’re told things are really big deal, but when you think about it, they’re really not that big of a deal.
One of the guiding ideas of the book was there are true loves, romantic and in friendship, and these loves will endure through time. A very romantic idea that I think I would love have loved when I was much younger. Now it seems a little too simplistic.
