Thoughts on Books and Bookselling

I should have started this years ago, when I made the decision to buy the store, or at least when I bought the store, on January 24, 2020. Or when we opened the doors on February 3. Or when we closed them again on March 13 because of COVID. What has happened these past four, three, two years? I should have started this months ago, when we celebrated our five-year anniversary and I allowed myself to believe I might actually know what I’m doing, at least a little bit. Or a few weeks ago when I overbooked us with multiple book fairs and events and I was too busy to keep the days straight, much less remember what I wanted to remember. Was I really in Hartford just a few weeks ago for a bookselling conference? I keep a list of all the books I’ve read, but do I remember what each of them are about? I’m on pace to read more books this year than ever before. What were my thoughts about each of them? I should have started this years ago, months ago, weeks ago, days ago. Well, I’ll start now.
